Event Description: oin Playhouse on Park in designating the Greater Hartford area as a premiere destination for the cultivation of innovative theatrical work! The Playwrights on Park Reading Series was created for this very purpose, and our next evening in this exciting series is Tuesday, January 23 at 7:30pm with Ted Malawer's The Anatomy of Love. The Anatomy of Love is an explosive drama about two parents struggling over the gender transition of their seven-year-old daughter. Laura and Danny Bradford are called to Samantha's school by her teacher, Ms. Spencer, because of an emergency: Samantha has bitten another child. Accusations fly about the source of Samantha's behavior, but Ms. Spencer identifies that there may be a new chapter beginning in Samantha's life that will shake the Bradfords to the core. Ted Malawer is a writer and performer originally from Long Island. He is a current student in the Playwriting program at The Juilliard School, where he is a Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Fellow. He has published six novels, including the Mystic City series (Delacorte/Penguin Random House), which has been translated into over ten languages and optioned for television by CBS. He also co-edited the performing arts anthology Starry-Eyed alongside talent agent Josh Pultz. Ted’s plays have been produced or developed by HERE Arts Center/Untitled Theater Company #61, The New Colony, TinyRhino, the O’Neill Theater Center, The Edge Theatre Company, and more. He is the recipient of fellowships from the Association for Jewish Theatre, Columbia University, and the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Ted is a graduate of the Columbia University-Juilliard School Exchange Program, and received his Masters in Literature from Fordham University. He is a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. The mission of Playwrights on Park is to produce original plays and musicals, therefore fostering emerging and established playwrights. Each reading features a new work, where audience members participate in a talk back session with the playwright, director and cast members. Audience members are also provided with response cards at the end of each reading. Additionally, there is a talkback segment featuring the Playwright and cast after each reading.
